Get Over it

Let’s start at the
beginning – it’s a very good place to start – you’ve got your guitars and drums
(credit to Harry, he keeps the band right, I have a true
appreciation for drummers!) and that weird little downward popping noise that
happens? It kind of chunters along, steady, enough to bob you head
half-heartedly and I must admit I was a bit ‘meh’ when I first heard it; now I
can’t wait to hit repeat and hear it again! Tom
brings in the song with his signature voice, that I just love. It's determined,
it's angry, it's setting the scene. A breakup. So it's a break up song? Well
not really...
They don't leave you
waiting long before they hit you with the perfect cue to do your best air
guitar busted jump (you know what I mean!!) as they stamp in sync into the
chorus "Out. All. Night, singing..." and then the message rings out.
You've got to get up, and you've guessed it, get over it! And what I like most
about this chorus - and this song - is the gorgeous harmony potential. Though
you can hear the falsetto harmonies hiding in the background there, if you can
bounce around trying to find an extra spot in this 6 strong band (all the
gorgeously talented guys... mmmm...) you can add your own harmonic flourish!
And the "down down down down down" is just
accentuated in the video; it is just the way the chorus needed to end.
So, we now feel empowered to do as the title suggests
and here is where the song starts to patchwork itself into something bigger
than itself. The song doesn't come back to the level of the first verse, they use
all those strong voices to perfection, filling the gaps in the background, it
sounds like there are more people than there really are. There is no silly
P&P with the posits you ordered in a box big enough for a bed! These guys
are splitting the seams with their power, you really get what you paid for.
You've been uplifted and your ears are being treated to an amalgamation of
really stunning voices you just can't flaw.
Now let's just give a shout out to my favourite
harmonies (well all of them), I'll be a bit more specific and give credit where
credit's due.
- At the end of the first verse Danny comes in to sing the tune and then Dougie adds a smooth harmony above
- Matt brings us in, and Danny brings us out of the second verse and Dougie adds his delicious harmony with both of them and James joins Danny and Dougie for the end. "Layers are lovely" as my old drama teacher would have said.
- James sings the down tempo part with Tom entering to take over the tune while James adds a close harmony beside him
With a band as big as
McBusted, the trick is using everyone's strengths in a balance, and that was my
main concern with this joint band. There are - from the outside - too many
people, when in actual fact there are just the right amount.
Hope you enjoyed,
Naomi xx
